Festival Secretary - Jeremy Morton

Jeremy Morton has lived in Beeston since 1984 and has been helping organise Beeston Festival since 2002. He is alsoinvolved in various community groups including Cross Flatts Community Forum. He is a governor at New Bewerley Community School. After many years with Leeds Federated Housing Association he is now the Director of Tiger11 the development trust currently renovating the former Hillside Primary School.

 

 

Ed Carlisle

Volunteer Coordinator - Ed Carlisle

Ed Carlisle, 29, is a local Beeston resident and has been helping organise Beeston Festival since 2005. He got married recently, works for the Leeds-wide Together for Peace initiative, and does a bit of local youthwork. Ed likes: Beeston, Freecycle, his allotment (although he's not very good at it), weird foreign films, and God. He dislikes: Facebook, the BNP, global climate change, and New Year’s resolutions.

 

 

Starr Zaman

Sports - Starr Zaman

Starr Has worked at Hamara for the last 4 years, working in trying to get Beeston fit and healthy (god help him) starr is in his first year helping with he Beeston festival,and is the lead on the health & physical activities section. Starr Also works for Kirklees Youth Service and a freelance fitness instructor. Starr is involved in various groups and committees and is a keen rugby league and Liverpool Fan. Other interest include going out socialising and travelling.

 

 

Ewan Mitchell

Finance - Ewan Mitchell

Ewan Mitchell moved to Leeds in 1999 and quickly realised that contrary to some bad advise Beeston was the place to be.  As well as working for the last 5 years for Sure Start Beeston Hill Ewan is also the Chair of the Neighbourhood Renewal Residents Forum and has a place on the Beeston Hill and Holbeck Partnership Board.  Ewan has been involved in the Beeston Festival for the past 3 years and in that time has helped with publicity, booking acts for the stages, health and safety and for the past two years has looked after the festivals finances.

 

 

Zoe Mitchell

Publicity - Zoe Mitchell

Zoë is a Beeston resident who has been involved with the festival since 2006 as photographer. 2008 will be her first festival as a committee member. When not behind the camera Zoë can be found growing veg on her allotment, watching local bands play at various venues around Leeds, and sketching people in pubs.

 

 

 

Stuart Angell

Publicity - Stuart Angell

Originally a Beverley boy, Stuart has lived in Beeston for nearly three years and has been a member of the committee since late 2007. Stuart has a background in recruitment and is involved in the publicity group for the festival. Otherwise he can sometimes be found either on the couch, B&Q or at some music gig in Leeds. :o)

 

 

 

Simon Murray

Publicity (web design) - Simon Murray

Simon works from home and could have chosen anywhere to live in the country and so came to sunny Beeston in 2007 with his family and is now loving Leeds. He designed and hosts this site, as well as acting as a designer and consultant for other charities in the local community of Beeston. When not web designing he can be seen pottering around in his photography studio in the centre of town or making his own beer.

 

 

Asghar Khan

Asghar Khan

Asghar khan grew up in Beeston where he still lives with his wife and children. He is involved in many local organisations. He is a committee member and is an organiser of Beeston Festival. He represents Cross Flatts Community Forum at the Neighbourhood Renewal Residents Forum and is a member of the Beeston Hill & Holbeck Regeneration Partnership Board. He also finds time to be a governor at Cross Flatts Park Primary School and  also a founding member and Vice-Chairman of the South Leeds Community A1liance.Which is Umbrella organization for local issues.

 

 

 

Angela Gabriel

Chair - Angela Gabriel

Angela has lived in Beeston since 2001 and has been the labour councillor for Beeston and Holbeck since 1996 and has been involved with the festival ever since. In about 11years, Angela have seen the festival  go from strength to strength and is very proud to have been a part of it. In her spare time Angela makes Jams and chutney's which she sells at the festival for which the profit goes back into the following years festival. Angelas greatest wish is that the festival is regarded by the community as the best festival in Leeds.

 

 

 

Paul Hart

Entertainments - Paul Hart

Originally from the South, Paul has lived around the Leeds area for the last ten years but has settled in Beeston since early 2006.  He can be found usually bouncing around Leeds vibrant music scene or relaxing in one of Leeds many Parks when the sun is out!  Paul has been involved with the Beeston festival since 2007, he wanted to get on board when he saw how successful and exciting it was last year.  Like many of the other members committee and those involved Paul feels this is an excellent way to get more of the Beeston community involved in a social event that everyone can enjoy.  Paul Likes: Music, Dancing, Photography and Blue Cheese!  Paul Dislikes:  Litter, Traffic, Ducks and Waiting.
