Beeston Festival is a great day. As every year, the sun will shine, and thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds will gather in the park for music, food, entertainment, sport, and… linked to the Rio Olympics in August, this year’s festival theme is CARNIVAL. As well as a load of all-age carnival-themed activities, a major new feature for this year will be a street procession between 11am-12pm, which will arrive in the park to mark the start of the festival.

And we need YOU, or folk you know please: Beeston Festival can’t run without volunteers. Any chance you could help out on the day, or beforehand (eg postering, baking, cooking, etc – see below)? Or encourage folk you know to do so?

You’ll meet lots of lovely people, you might learn new stuff, it’s a laugh, and you’ll be making a real difference in the life of our community.

The festival runs between 12-5pm, but we need people anytime between 8am and 7pm. Roles include: set-up; chaperoning VIPs; stewarding, especially the street procession between 11am-12pm; ‘waste management’ (!); helping to run the kids and sports zones; staffing stalls, food stands, etc; child safety provision; judging the ‘best dressed stall’; running the BBQ; clearing down at the end; and more.

If you’re coming to run a stall, why not consider helping briefly with set-up or clear-down? And/or if you can’t help out on the day (or if you’re just really keen!), you might also want to: bake cakes, create samosas or snacks, or make jam for us to sell on the day; help promote the event around Beeston in the month beforehand; or help with other bits of event preparation.

Stalls

Book your stall for 2016

UPDATED: Bookings are now CLOSED for stalls in the Bazaar at the 2016 Beeston Festival.

HfA stall 2014Stalls are priced according the type of organisation making the booking and the activity they will carry out on the stall:

  • All food stalls  –  £100 per pitch
  • Registered business with four or more employees  –  £60
  • Registered business with three or fewer employees  –  £40
  • Statutory agencies (Council, NHS, Police, etc)  –  £30
  • Voluntary sector organisations with paid staff  –  £40
  • Political parties, campaigning groups and all religious organisations – £30
  • Residents with stall for personal profit (non food)  –  £20
  • Community organisations with no paid staff (non food)  –  £10

Each pitch is 3 metres wide, you may order as many as you require. You must provide your own gazebo, but you can hire chairs and tables via the Festival at an extra charge, or bring your own. Each stall will receive two car passes onto the site.

Once you have returned the form and payment you will receive an acknowledgement. Full details for the day including you stall pitch number and location will be sent to you by the end of May.

Stall bookings close on Friday 6 May and no bookings will be taken after this date.

Join the Birds Eye display at Beeston Festival

Yorkshire Life Aquatic are teaming up with Beeston Festival to create a “Birds Eye” View display using people to create giant words and patterns in the park.

Close The Gap

We are looking for people to join in with us to make this happen at Beeston Festival on Saturday 6 June 2015 in Cross Flatts Park in Beeston. We are hoping that you can come along and bring your friends.

Who we are:

We are Yorkshire Life Aquatic (a dry land synchronised swimming team based in Yorkshire) and friends and our mission is to create with festival goers a “birds-eye’ view display to celebrate and send a hopeful message for people using words in synchronisation.

We want to spell out the words “Close the Gap’ as a message of hope for our communities. Close the gap – for the common good of every person.

For this to have the most effect we need people as many as possible, the activity is open to all ages and abilities.

We welcome everyone to join us. The highlights will be captured from above with a camera and mini helicopter device. We would like to evolve a “birds-eye message” of hope and joy to celebrate communities everywhere at Beeston Festival.

When:

We will begin assembling people at 12 and the activity starts at 1pm.

Come and make some art at Beeston Festival

With less than three weeks to go to the 2015 Beeston Festival, sponsored by Unity Homes & Enterprise, everything is in place for another memorable day of fun activities, music and food.

Poster2015 yellowCross Flatts Park will be transformed on Saturday 6 June between 12-5pm. As well as the usual mix of live music, dance, sport, children’s activities, a bazaar full of stalls and a fun fair, this year’s event will have an accent on art.

British Art Show 8 is coming to Leeds in October 2015 and to celebrate the festival organisers have teamed up with a range of arts organisations to bring some fun activities to the park.

Pyramid of Arts will invite you to help them build woollen cobwebs amongst the trees; Basement Arts will be showing the short films made by Beeston residents with help from Leeds Beckett University; Andrew and Toby from East Street Arts, currently living on the Garnets, will be inviting you to help design a totem pole for the park.

Meanwhile dry land swimming team Yorkshire Life Aquatic who will help festival goers create a “birds-eye’ view display to celebrate and send a hopeful message for people using words, patterns and dry land swimming. The results will be captured on camera by a small quadricopter drone.

Staff from The Tetley art gallery will be helping festival goers create a sculpture on the day, whilst elsewhere in the park another graffiti mural will be created on the wall of the Watsonian Pavilion.

On the sporting front there will be wrestling displays and Leeds Roller Dolls. There will be plenty to get involved with from football rugby and cricket through to golf and table tennis. Or perhaps you’d like to try The Works’ BMX track, or the climbing wall?

In the Bazaar, you can browse amongst the hundred stalls offering food, plants, jewellery, bric-a-brac and information. Throw in cream teas, live music and donkey rides and it’s looking like another great day of fun.

As well as Unity Homes and Enterprise, the festival is sponsored by Leeds Federated Housing, Unison and Citu; and receives financial support from the Inner South Community Committee and from the Councillors of Beeston & Holbeck and City & Hunslet wards.

Date set for 6th June 2015

The committee can confirm that the 2015 festival will take place on Saturday 6th June.

For a number of year’s we held the festival on the second Saturday in June, but from this year onwards it will be held on first Saturday in June. We have changed this to reduce our costs and improve the fun fair offer to festival goers.

We will be announcing details of stall booking arrangements and our first confirmed acts in the coming weeks, as well as a new look to the festival’s branding.
